1 SCOPE
1.1 Purpose
This NASA-HDBK serves as a companion to NASA Procedural Requirements (NPR) 8715.6,
NASA Procedural Requirements for Limiting Orbital Debris and NASA—STD 8719.14, Process
for Limiting Orbital Debris and contains the background and reference materials to aid in
understanding the foundation and science for predicting and limiting orbital debris.
1.2 Applicability
a. This NASA-HDBK may be used by any program Which launches material into space, but is
most useful in assisting those programs using NPR 8715.6 and NASA—STD 8719.14.
b. This NASA—HDBK may be cited in contract, program, and other Agency documents as a
reference for guidance.
